Norman Farnsworth, the leading U.S. expert on medicinal plant research, died September 10, 2011, in Chicago from congestive heart failure and type 2 diabetes. He was 81.
Farnsworth taught and did research at the University of Illinois at Chicago for 41 years, where he was head of the pharmacognosy graduate program from 1970-1982 and Distinguished Professor of Pharmacognosy from 2001 until his death. He was also Principal Investigator and Director of the Botanical Dietary Supplements for Women’s Health Center, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health.
