Originally published in Venice in 1614, this is an English translation published in London in 1720.

In the book, Sanctorius describes the first quantitative balance studies in which he weighed the food and drink he consumed, subtracted the weight of his feces and urine, and calculated the amount of insensible perspiration lost from his body.
